World Languages Faces Another Setback…

We previously reported that regular Italian 4 classes at GL were not being offered due to low enrollment and that students who would have been in the class had the option to join a combined Honors Italian 4/AP Italian mega-class with about 28 students and no support.

We are now hearing reports from Columbia Middle School that not all students who were set to take Italian in 8th grade are able to be seated in a class due to scheduling issues. The option is to take Spanish, French, or have the language requirement waived for 8th grade.

This comes on the heels of the French “snafu” last year.

Isn’t it time the District gives World Languages the attention and forethought needed to support our students?
