Community Correspondence to the Board of Education – August 2023

Berkeley Heights BOE

There was no meeting in July, and no correspondence to the Board in July- much of what was provided to BHCW was written to the Board in June. The District habitually does not give responsive documents, so if you wrote to the Board of Education in July, please let us know.

Also, the OPRA Custodian continues redacting his name and those of other District-level administrators, which, we will say again, will lead to more lawsuits.

Here is a summary of what we did get:

Three Emails on the District’s Decision to terminate Ms. Lim’s position

Letter from BHEA on Hiring Practices/Salary Guides

Question regarding the report on proficiencies Ms. Stanley and Mr. Hopkins stated did not exist but did exist.

Email to the BOE, asking them to reduce their toxicity.

Two emails asking why Ms. Corley Hand took over Mr. Hopkins’s K-12 ELL responsibilities

Email from BHCW clarifying the number of OPRA requests sent from BHCW

We have asked the OPRA Custodian for all the cover letters of OPRA requests he’s provided (something the District used to make public) and for an existing report on OPRA requests – the former we are playing word games on and the latter he reports does not exist/cannot find.

Question on why the Board of Education is signing off on OPRA requests and other recent deviations from historical practice.

The first of many emails on the Busing controversy that we will likely get with the OPRA request we submitted for September correspondence.
