Zoom Participation Added to 04/15/2024 BOE Special Meeting

Berkeley Heights BOE

The Special Notice for the 04/15/2024 BOE Meeting has been updated to include a discussion of allowing community participation in meetings through Zoom.   Ms. Joly and Ms. Akiri have been the most vocal advocates of this change, and this is consistent with Mr. Nixon’s and Ms. Bradford’s pledge to improve transparency and family involvement in the District.

During COVID, families had the ability to speak at BOE Meetings remotely and provided evidence of fierce opposition to the poorly designed and implemented reconfiguration.

Since the significant change in Board composition and leadership this year, along with a new Acting Superintendent and President, we have seen some positive changes already, which also include:

-Blocking Courtesy busing so that a more transparent and data-informed approach that is fair to ALL students can be developed.

-The District’s first survey asking for parental feedback on the budget

-Presence of an RFP for attorneys (finally) on the agenda and push back on what appear to be improper billing practices that has saved the District money
