What’s Important to Know About Our Local & State Government This Week….

Our latest newsletter kicks off with a deep dive into serious concerns surrounding Governor Livingston’s GPA system and its potential impact on both past and present students navigating college admissions.

We then turn our focus to the Town Council’s controversial decision to dismantle the local ethics committee—while approving a $30,000 contract for a high-profile public relations firm and onboarding eight law firms, many with histories of political campaign contributions. With potential costs exceeding $400,000, Berkeley Heights families are left to foot the bill—and this is just the beginning.

Next, we follow up on Gale Bradford’s move to bypass the democratic process for committee appointments by imposing ad-hoc committees. Laura breaks down how these redundant committees serve little purpose beyond propping up a weak justification from a Board of Education president handpicked by a politically connected superintendent with ties to local party machines.

Meanwhile, Akiri and Joly deliver substantive responses to pressing concerns raised by the community and the BHEA regarding facilities, underscoring the unnecessary nature of Bradford’s ad-hoc committees—especially given the $4 million surplus available to address urgent needs.

We also provide in-depth coverage on the Business Administrator’s inaccurate OPRA report to the BOE, the Mayor’s spree of executive orders, and follow up to Berkeley Heights’ involvement in a controversial police training program.

Rounding things out, our Community Voices segment poses hard-hitting questions about the Mayor and Town Council’s actions over the past 13 months.

Finally, we reaffirm our commitment to providing a platform for all residents to share their perspectives—free from censorship—and highlight our top three articles for January.
