This afternoon, Superintendent Dr. Feltre addressed the BHPS community regarding the pressing issue at hand: the Lower Columbia Land Lease Agreement.

She emphasized the importance of careful deliberation, stating,

“The field is a precious asset for which the Board has a responsibility. Certain practical and legal issues take time to resolve… any perceived delays stem from the Board taking its fiduciary duty seriously, not from any individual or group being difficult.”

Amid what many perceive as an intense push from the township to acquire the Lower Columbia field, key questions remain unanswered, and the details of the lease have yet to be disclosed.

Tensions escalated when the Township threatened to revoke access to the tennis courts used by the fall and spring GL tennis teams unless the Board signed the lease—an ultimatum that has only added to the unease surrounding this issue.

I commend Dr. Feltre and the Board for taking a measured approach, ensuring due diligence is conducted in the best interest of our students, staff, schools, and community.

While there is broad support for improving our fields, the process and what our students get in return matters. Stakeholder involvement matters. Transparency matters.
