A Deeper Look at BHFD Data: Efficacy & Response Time

Berkeley Heights Town Government

I asked the BHFD for data spanning multiple years to provide a deeper understanding of what they do. I didn’t have to wait seven days or submit 15 iterations of my request—they simply provided the records. Maybe the BHFD could offer some training to the BHPSNJ Business Office on how to produce records efficiently.

Onto the data.

Efficacy scores are based on Total Pre-Incident Value and Total Losses using a simple formula from the “Property Values versus Loss and Save per Incident” report.

The Efficacy Score (percentage of property saved) has remained consistently high, above 85% every year and above 95% MOST Years.

We then compared efficacy with incident count to see if the number of incidents affects effectiveness.

Even in years with higher incidents (2018 as an example), efficacy remained above 96%.

Additionally, the BHFD has one of the fastest response times among all zones in the dataset provided.
