Athletics, Co-Curricular, Textbooks and Educational Media Services Per Pupil Cost Break Down for Berkeley Heights, Chatham, New Providence, Summit, Millburn, Madison, and Westfield
Part Six of our effort to break down the 7-District Budget Dashboard in supporting residents of Berkeley Heights, Chatham, New Providence, Summit, Millburn, Madison, and Westfield provide more informed feedback to their Boards of Education during the upcoming budget process.
Athletics
Chatham saw the most significant increase, jumping from $266.27 in 2023 to $369.16 in 2024, suggesting increased investment in school-sponsored athletics.
New Providence was the only district to reduce athletics spending per pupil, decreasing from $352.04 to $344.92, possibly due to budget cuts or cost-saving measures.
Berkeley Heights continues to spend the most per pupil on athletics.

Co-Curricular Activities
Chatham had the most significant increase, rising from $157.38 in 2023 to $194.43 in 2024, indicating expanded investment in co-curricular programs.
New Providence was the only district to decrease spending, dropping from $141.05 to $131.92.

Textbooks
New Providence had the most significant increase in spending, jumping from $0.00 in 2023 to $88.91 in 2024, suggesting a major new investment in textbooks.
Summit saw the most dramatic decline, dropping from $90.19 in 2023 to $52.75 in 2024, which may indicate a shift in budget priorities or reduced textbook purchases.
Berkeley Heights continues to spend the least in this area.

Educational Media Services
Summit had the most significant increase, rising from $278.08 in 2023 to $320.99 in 2024, indicating a major expansion in educational media services.
Berkeley Heights experienced the most significant drop, falling from $214.60 in 2023 to $177.17 in 2024.
