Berkeley Heights Township Provides Further Details on Emergency Bond

Berkeley Heights Town Government

For the first time, the Township released a list of projects it says will be funded by the bond during today’s Council Meeting. This follows days of us asking that details be made public.  The July 14, 2025 Storm Damage Assessment names more than a dozen streets slated for roadwork, including Russo Place, Wentworth Drive, Sussex Road, Bristol Court, Balmoral Drive, Twin Falls Road, Hampshire Road, Spring Ridge Drive, Rogers Avenue, Kingman Road, and Watchung Way.

Unfortunately, residents did not have much time to review the document as it was uploaded today and it’s availability was announced during the meeting. I could only attend a portion of the meeting However, I did get confirmation that the bond passed and residents will have an opportunity over the next two weeks to provide their feedback to the Mayor and Council.  It’s still not clear whether this assessment is formally tied to the bond.  This is critical as anything not directly in the ordinance is not binding. Shauna will be doing a write up on the meeting later on.

The list also identifies multiple culvert and bridge repairs: Locust Avenue, Summit Road/Sussex Road, Hampton Drive, Sutton Drive (ownership with Union County), Liberty Avenue, Orion Road, Berkshire Drive, Lee Lane, and Lawrence Drive/Kline Boulevard. The $40,000 driveway paving is for the Firehouse driveway.

Here is a table that breaks down where the funds are going.
