New Dashboard Lets NJ Residents Track Housing Trends in Their Own Town

New Jersey has just made it a lot easier for residents to understand what’s really happening with housing in their communities.
The Municipal Housing Dashboard allows you to see the age and type of housing in your town, track trends in rental and housing costs, determine household economic vunlerability, or check the number of eviction filings in your ZIP code. This allows residents to verify the numbers they are hearing representatives throw out during Council and BOE Meetings.
This tool can also help you understand the housing pressures in your neighborhood easily. Local nonprofits can use the data to push for affordable housing or rental assistance. The dashboard is update each year.
Brief How-To:
- Open the Dashboard:
- Choose your municipality, or browse by county, legislative district, or housing region.
- Click through the tabs: “Conditions” (types and age of housing), “Cost” (rent, ownership, sales), “Households” (income, family size, homelessness), “Evictions” (filings by ZIP), and “County Highlights.”
- Use the data to compare, ask better questions, or simply get a clearer picture of what housing looks like in your community.
