Fact Checking the Townships Unattributed 10/06/2025 Press Release on Passaic River Flooding

Another unsigned, unattributed press release from Berkeley Heights Township reports that Mayor Angie Devanney met with other local officials and state agencies to talk about what can be done about the Passaic River.
“Doing nothing is not the solution for Berkeley Heights,” Devanney said in the Township’s statement. “The state can no longer ignore this massive problem that is causing millions of dollars of damage to our towns.”
This quote appears to hold the state accountable for the issue, but as we reported the Township has not provided any record of application for DEP permits nor have they responded to questions connected to our reporting on this issue.
The release did not include the meeting agenda or any cost estimates, centering primarily on ideas.
Berkeley Heights, New Providence, Summit, Long Hill, and Chatham plan to apply for a Resilient NJ Regional Assistance grant jointly. While a step forward this would only potentially fund planning and coordination.
