This Week at NJ21st… DOE Shifts, BOE Drama, and a New 501(c)(4)

Newsletter

They’re Listening…A Little Bit
We started the week with coverage of a State DOE Meeting that saw three important changes in connection to Transparency, Accountability and Clarity as parents will have more access to what their students are learning, the Commissioner will have more sway in holding schools accountable and students will have a clearer understanding on graduation pathways.

Looming Crisis
Readers got an inside look at a NJSBA Panel discussion that includes State Senators O’Scanlon and Ruiz confronting “unsustainable” costs of public employee healthcare in NJ’s public schools.

Breaking Down the BHPSNJ BOE Meeting
Laura provides a summary of a meeting that had the typical inside trolling we come to expect from Stanley and robotic partisanship typical of Bradford as the bond questions imploded and proficiency scores dropped.

John follows up with coverage of student comments made during the meeting that mirrored concerns many parents still have about the persistent and nonsensical obsession with making sure indirect teaching methodology remains in our classrooms.

Beyond the Talking Points
Shauna tackles the BOE Candidate responses to Questions 1 and 2 and appears to land on Samson, Morales and Terrero as having the strongest responses of the five candidates.

Two Announcements
NJ21st received formal recognition as a 501(c)(4) non-profit from the IRS and we announced Plainfield High School as the recipient of this year’s $1000 newsroom award.  It’s important to note that the contribution is not just financial.  NJ21st will assist the District with setting up an independent newsroom, design and training if needed.
