The 10/21/25 Town Council meeting was like rapid fire. The Council moved quickly through business, with lots of bobbing heads voting “yes” and not a single person engaging in relevant discussion or deliberation on the ordinances and resolutions being adopted.

As we previously reported, though I missed it at first, our Township Engineer is also an employee of Neglia Consulting. If that name sounds familiar, it should! Neglia is the popular no-bid contracting firm responsible for the majority of our Township’s projects. Conflict of interest? I guess we can add that to the growing list!

The Council did discuss eBikes and how dangerous they are, the lack of adequate signage, and the need for regulations to keep bikers, drivers, and pedestrians safe. Some argued that eBikes are essentially motorcycles and should follow similar regulations requiring permits and a road test, while others felt safety could be achieved without drastic measures. Ultimately, the state will guide municipalities in navigating how such regulations are written, handled, and adopted. Retired officer Moran advocated for having regulations included in Title 39, which would allow the BHPD to enforce bike safety.

In what evolved into a bizarre discussion that felt like the most disconnected and entitled banter, the Mayor, Council VP Poage, and Councilwoman Illis became giggly talking about their vacation homes in LBI (yes, all three shared they own homes on the island). They laughed about who owns homes on the “better” part of the island and which areas have great bike signage and which do not.

To see what was passed, with no discussion, check out John’s notes on the agenda.
