New Jersey is changing both the state tests and the accountability system at the same time. Adaptive testing means students get different questions, and the DOE has not released the data showing how these scores connect to prior years. At the same time, NJDOE is changing cut scores, targets, and even who counts in chronic absenteeism (from 45 to 90 days). These combined changes could make it much harder to tell whether schools are improving, stagnant, or declining. In this video, I explain what’s changing, why it matters, and why transparency is essential for parents and students across New Jersey.
