S4881 – Merger of New Jersey City University With Kean University | Senate Higher Education Committee
Monday, 11/17/2025 @ 11am
NJCU’s collapse caused some deep damage and the state is looking to address it by folding it into Kean University.
While the public push for the merger speaks to the promises this arrangement holds – some important details remain scarce or hard to find. The agreement outlines governance, asset transfers and broad responsibilities but we weren’t able to locate a publicly posted, detailed financial integration plan online.
The bill points to NJCU’s 150M in long-term debt obligations (over 300M total debt) but a document illustrating the full cost connected to its absorption (including debt schedules and how the combined institution plans to stabilize long-term operations) doesn’t appear readily accessible on either university’s site or legislative materials.
S3669 / A4767 – Ban on PFAS in Menstrual Products | Senate Commerce Committee
Monday, 11/17/2025 @ 10am
Prohibits PFAS chemicals (linked to cancer, infertility and other health issues) from menstrual products sold in NJ and would force manufacturers to use safer materials.
There are potential downsides – temporary shortages (especially among low-cost brands) while prices may increase as manufacturers adjust production. Online or out-of-state sellers may evade enforcement efforts and because PFAS detection requires lab testing and certification – state agencies will need capacity and standards to implement the law effectively.
S4581 – Division of Consumer Affairs Open Data Portal | Senate Commerce Committee
Monday, 11/17/2025 @ 10am
Empowers the DCA to create a public data portal for items like disciplinary actions, complaints, inspection reports and licensing data. Much of this is already available online but scattered and difficult to access.
A one-stop portal could improve public oversight with a clear view of misconduct patterns, licensing issues and trends.
