More Than 70 Groups Sign Letter Opposing S4924

Berkeley Heights Town Government

nj21st is happy to join more than 70 organizations, representing a broad coalition of good-government, civil rights, community and advocacy groups across New Jersey, in signing a letter asking Governor Murphy, Senate President Scutari and Assembly Speaker Coughlin to reject S4924.

As a civic journalism initiative focused on transparency and government accountability, we believe the Comptroller’s work is essential to effective and ethical government.

The letter makes clear that weakening the state’s independent oversight function offers no public benefit and would leave New Jersey families more vulnerable to mismanagement and corruption. It also warns that pushing this bill during lame duck further damages public trust just as a new administration begins.

We appreciate the hard work that the New Jersey Working Families Alliance put into coordinating this effort and we stand firmly united in opposition to S4924.
