NJ21st incorrectly implied that there was an intra-year municipal salary increase within 2025. In fact, the salary increases occurred between 2024 and 2025. The December 2025 ordinance did not further increase the salary ranges set earlier in the year.
The underlying salary figures and comparisons in our reporting were accurate. The error related only to the timing of when the increases were adopted.
The articles in question did go through NJ21st’s standard review and edit process. At the time of publication, we were unable to locate the earlier ordinance during our research. Additionally, the Mayor and Council’s practice of not engaging with critical press outlets likely limited opportunities for clarification before publication.
We continue to believe that public documentation explaining the basis for the 2024 to 2025 salary increases is important for transparency. NJ21st has submitted an OPRA request seeking records related to how those increases were determined.
