This Week At NJ21st: School Budgets, Uncomfortable Questions, and Fact Checking Fliers

Newsletter

Over the past year, we have created a substantial and coherent collection of articles intended to prepare residents across NJ for their District and Municipal Government Budget meetings This week, we saw another addition to our ‘Understanding Your NJ Government Series’ that provides residents with a walk through on School Budgets.

Staying top level, we move on to a DOE memo that adds more accountability to Preschool Education Aid and a state labor market that finds NJ continuing to trail most of the country on unemployment.

Berkeley Heights is back on the radar with another crammed meeting agenda that included a referendum presentation many residents felt was intended to prolong the meeting and delay public comment, a resolution connected to the redevelopment of the massive Nokia property, millions in emergency spending, and yet another change order for the Sewage Plant.  During the meeting, NJ21st contributor John Migueis asked about the lack of deliberation on agenda items among Council Members during meetings, and the responses and reactions from the Mayor and Council won’t surprise you.

Shauna continues her coverage of the BHPSNJ 50 million dollar referendum; this time, she dissects a District flyer and points out several claims that deserve scrutiny.

We end with our breakdown of a Summit Common Council Meeting Agenda that also tackles a host of items related to Affordable Housing and a significant agreement with ParkMobile residents should pay attention to.
