WARN notices signal potential job losses before they hit the ground and the impact is felt.
Under Federal rules, employees who are covered may have certain rights in connection to an advance notice of mass layoffs or plant closings and NJ requires that the Commissioner of Labor and Workforce Development, employees, unions and chief exec. of each Municipality (Mayor for example) be informed and in turn we would expect the community to then be informed by it’s leadership of the possibility of local job loss.
This month Fiserv Solutions shows up on the list with a potential work force reduction that could affect 118 employees listing an effective date range of 03/31 through 05/31/2026. The list also includes Blue Cross Blue Shield- Newark (242 positions), Brystol Myers- Lawrence Township (247), JP Morgan-Jersey City (120), Compass- Madison (110) and Prudential-Newark (54).
At minimum, the filing means Berkeley Heights and Madison are now on NJ’s 2026 layoff radar which makes this a local economy story for both communities.
However, the last three months also shows a bigger story statewide as the first three months of 2026 are trending ahead 2023, 2024 and 2025.

The state Labor Department’s role is limited to helping with rapid-response services (unemployment guidance, reemployment services, job-fair support, retraining information).
