More evidence our Superintendent would rather double down on her delusions than collaborate with anyone but her small circle.

During the budget process, after we saw teachers and Administrators speak out against the Superintendent’s plans to cut staff, BHCW put in an OPRA Request for emails. The subject of these emails pertained to Dr. Varley’s claims of collaborating with her fellow Administrators during the Budget process versus what sounded more like a blind-side to just about everyone who isn’t Dr. Varley or a member of the finance and facility committee.

I was particularly drawn to an email from Melissa Varley to Administrators that included a “Budget Calendar.” Administrators responded to Melissa Varley that they weren’t sure what was sent to them, proving “ample collaboration” because the dates on the attachment mostly precede her employment. After review, there are dates included in Budget calendar that don’t even have to do with the Budget but the annual Board of Ed re-organization meeting.

Fast forward to the single attachment of dates discussed in the emails, which required a 5-week OPRA extension (because, as previously reported, Steve Hopkins is “too busy” with his other jobs to address OPRA requests on time). The dates do range from 2017-2024; however, the dates from the current calendar year, pertaining to what appears to be a secretive budget process, are few and far between any reasonable effort to include the key players (Supervisors, Principals, Teachers, and Directors) that should have been at the table.

This proves, yet again, that Melissa Varley doubles down on her delusions of reality to paint a picture of inclusion and collaboration. In reality, the facts and accounts from multiple Administrators (mainly, Principals) paint a very different story displaying the total and utter lack of collaboration and exclusion when making significant decisions and changes to our schools, in this case, the budget.
