What’s Important to Know About Berkeley Heights This Week…

The BOE Majority voted to change election policies, with the final vote slated for October – one month before the election. This week, the reasons for these changes appeared clear to BOE Candidates who wrote to the Council requesting that an unconstitutional ordinance be revoked. The Majority also silenced a BOE Member from potentially letting on that they were applying a different standard on payment for the now largely defunct ethics allegations the Majority voted for in 2022

The newsletter also provides insight into some of the curriculum changes the District has employed since Dr. Varley’s tenure began and the chaos that ensued on top of the learning loss our students experienced during COVID.

One of our contributions, providing an update on Dr. Varley’s ethics issues, was published in NJ Education report. A letter obtained through OPRA from the BHEA to Dr. Varley and the BOE provides further insight into the continued difficulties with Staff retention.
