What’s Important to Know About Our Local & State Government This Week….

This week’s newsletter opens with our 7-District Dashboard, showcasing Spring 2024 NJSLA performance. We highlight competitive ELA scores, tightening math rankings, and pinpoint areas for improvement in Algebra 1, Geometry, and science compared to peer districts.

Next, we dive into a series of in-depth articles on the impact of gray money in New Jersey’s county elections, accompanied by detailed profiles for each county.

From there, we turn our attention to Town Council Meetings, where the township has resumed publishing meeting videos on its YouTube channel after weeks of delays. We revisit the contentious $450,000 resolution for the Old Farm project and a subsequent meeting where council and administration responded defensively to residents’ questions and concerns.

We also examine the aftermath of a decision by the former Board of Education (BOE) majority to grant the BOE President unilateral control over committee appointments—leading to immediate concerns about abuse of power.

In our weekly notes, we analyze New Jersey’s newly released statewide proficiency scores, which suggest that the ongoing decline in academic performance cannot be solely attributed to COVID-19.

Finally, we wrap up with our top three articles for November—a must-read selection for anyone following New Jersey’s political and educational landscape.
