Major Contracts, Staffing Decisions and Receipts Lacking on Summit BOE Re-Org Agenda

BOE Agendas and Meeting SummariesSummit

John’s Notes on the 05/12/2026 BOE Meeting Agenda

The 05/12/2026 Summit BOE Meeting is largely about re-org which means deciding president, vice president, readopting rules, policies etc but residents may still want to tune in as there are some other meaningful items on the agenda. This becomes more true if you consider Summit continues to maintain its transparency blind spot by not including actual contracts or backup documentation – even for the bigger ticket items.

Onto the agenda items worth paying attention to…

The Board is looking to eliminate one FPPA Teacher position through a reduction in force, due to “insufficient enrollment in specific courses” according to the agenda.

Derek Jess, Business Administrator/Board Secretary, is retiring effective July 1, 2026 – marked as revised from the April 16 agenda. Also listed for retirement are Winifred Caetta, Special Education Teacher (effective July 1) and Lucia Diaz-Romero, School Psychologist (effective October 1).

The Board is approving several out-of-district tuition contracts for 2026-27 – six placements totaling ~ $723K before any transportation or ancillary services.

Then there’s a handful of facility items with some big price tags as well…

$90,900 to El Associates- architectural/engineering work connected to roof replacements at Brayton and Jefferson.

Four Tatlock Field House change orders totaling $34,213.86 (guard rails along the roofline, electrical outlets for security equipment, sealcoat along a walkway, and video equipment).

$92,926.12 in replacement food-service equipment.

$128,842.40 for a 20-passenger wheelchair-lift school bus.

The Board is authorizing the sale of a Woodland Avenue easement with a minimum price of $15,000 – public bidding to be advertised.

In personnel, one employee is placed on paid administrative leave from April 27 through June 30, 2026 – no further info available on the agenda.

Other items worth noting…

LINKIT!/Magnolia Consulting – two year $92,225 for special-education support and professional development, funded by IDEA. Year 1 is $40,275; Year 2 is $51,950.

Arthur J. Gallagher reappointed health-benefits broker for $89,000.

Nisivoccia is reappointed auditor for the 2025-26 ACFR at $80,500.

The Board is approving Frontline Education subscriptions totaling $54,196.58 for 2026-27, with increases of 4% in 2027-28 and 2% in 2028-29.

May bills total $3,098,080.69 across all funds; April payroll is $5,591,971.84.
