In this clip, Former Berkeley Heights Councilwoman Jean Kingsley urged the Berkeley Heights Town Council to apply greater scrutiny, transparency and accountability before expanding the Police Department. She called on council members to make the data and analysis used to support the Ordinance expanding the police department by six positions (including a deputy chief and third lieutenant) available to the public.
Kingsley also took on concerns with the Municipal Building including certificate of occupancy, bad odor, unresolved construction issues, roof leaks along with the steps the town is taking to address problems with the builder.
The former councilwoman argued that the council should demonstrate effective management of the tax funded commitments it already has before before adding more; emphasizing that every major decision should be evaluated based on necessity, affordability and responsible stewardship.
