It’s Not Just GL- The Youngest Learners in the Data Set Are Far Behind Surrounding Schools

This week, the community member who has been looking through the rankings and ratings that we tied into the budget data took a closer look at ratings and rankings. We posted on one part of that analysis this week – demonstrating that Governor Livingston high school dropped 52 places. GL was a top 25 school when Berkeley Heights allowed a public vote on the budget; it’s been a steady slide since the BOE took over the process entirely and on steroids since the new administration came into place.

Elementary schools are not in much better shape. The youngest learners included in the data at Hughes and Mountain are significantly behind their peers in surrounding areas – both schools and their teachers were impacted by the botched reconfiguration pushed through by Dr. Varley and Ms. Penna despite a huge public outcry which resulted in a violation of law and an SEC-validated ethics complaint.

This is occurring despite Berkeley Heights having a far higher per pupil cost than surrounding schools with larger investments in legal fees and administration when compared to the same.
