The NP BOE Agenda follows a similar “next step after the budget” as the Berkeley Heights meeting but starts with a presentation on “Thoughtful Technology Integration.”
Like Berkeley Heights, the tax payment schedule is the first item up after the initial presentation and reports and shows a General Fund of ~$47.5M, Debt Service of ~$2M, bringing the total to about $49.5M. The schedule of payments is uneven, with the bigger payments showing up in August, November, February and May. Most of the Debt Service is handled by the July payment.
The May bill list comes to ~$3.27M, but as is typical with NP, the public is unable to view it online or prior to the meeting.
Annual resolutions cover standard items designating James Testa as Business Admin/Board Secretary, Public Agency Compliance Officer and purchasing agent, and Elias Leader as the Integrated Pest Management coordinator.
There’s also a bunch of appointments that include auditors, Donohue, Gironda, Doria & Tomkins @ NTE $42,500; consultants, Energy for America @ NTE ~$33K; and lawyers, Methfessel and Werbel @ a cool $185 per hour.
The Board is also scheduled to approve the 2026-27 meeting calendar, which covers 7/23/26 through 06/24/27. Most meetings are set for Thursdays @ 7:00 p.m. in the MS/HS Media Center with two exceptions: Aug. 31, 2026 and Mar. 22, 2027. The Jan. 7 meeting is listed as the Regular/Reorg. meeting.
The bid threshold stays at $53,000 and lets the purchasing agent, also the BA, award contracts below certain thresholds without the same level of quotation or bidding requirements. The resolution also states that contracts under the threshold but over $3,500 require at least two quotes. Anything under that amount can just be awarded without quotes.
That setup is not unusual, but it does show why oversight matters. The BA is also the purchasing agent and has a lot of latitude when it comes to purchasing decisions.
Moving onto finance –
The district is looking to sell Gen 9 iPads with keyboards/cases to the 2026 senior class and staff for $75 a pop, and Gen 7 iPads, also with keyboards/cases, to staff for $60 per.
It’s also looking to buy 300 Gen 11 iPads and 330 Logitech Rugged Combo 4 Cases @ NTE ~$130K for the 2026-27 school year.
There’s the 2026-27 food service agreement with Pomptonian, with a management fee of a little over 4 cents on each dollar sold and a guarantee of no-cost operation for the year.
Onto the Donations
Salt Brook PTA – $500 each for SWAT, Multicultural, Art, Garden and Broadcasters Clubs; $1,000 for SWAG and $1,500 for STEM. It’s also donating $250 for the Nursing Office and $500 for the Counseling Office.
Athletics…
There’s also a $3,365.76 donation from NP PAL for the softball field renovation and a $3,610.08 donation from the New Providence Tennis Association, which will cover the full cost of the windscreen for the tennis courts.
There’s an agreement with JAG-ATC, LLC for sub. athletic trainer services at $85/hour and American Family Care for physicals and sports MD services @ NTE $39K.
Exhibit B lists game worker fees and Exhibit C includes the UCC Officials Committee fee recommendations for 2025-26 and 2026-27.
Personnel…
The personnel section is LONG and includes summer technology workers, custodians, subs/aides/secretaries, department heads, curriculum review, media center, nursing, counseling and ESY to name a few.
The policy section includes first-reading approval of several mandatory revised policies, including nepotism, legal services, professional services, employment of the Chief School Administrator, administrative employment contracts and cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
These are significant policies, and there are no copies of the documents available for public review prior to the meeting; it’s weird that NP residents find this acceptable.
It also includes second-reading approval of policies and regulations related to promotion and transfer opportunities, religion in the schools, Special Education Medicaid Initiative, property inventory and student sun protection, and again, no attachments for review.
