No Votes, No Edits: BHPSNJ Finalizes Plan Despite Public Critique Over Lack of Substance and Questions on Declining Enrollment

Laura’s Notes on the 06/25/2026 BHPSNJ BOE Meeting

The June 25, 2026 BOE meeting was quick moving and significant.

Following the Strategic Plan presentation (which we covered here) questions were asked regarding whether or not the BOE votes to adopt the plan and if any feedback will be taken into consideration.  The answer to both questions was “no!”

Joly commented that the District should look to create a survey to families about their general experience in our schools and noted that all surveys to date are targeted and specific, and none allow for general feedback.

In the Business Administrators report, the first part of the Referendum (camera upgrades for security) will be happening over the summer and finishing before the start of school in September.  Nicholson notes that the technology team and the Business office worked diligently to find the most fiscally responsible plan for the upgrades.

During public comments John offered a critique on lack of substance in strategic plan and no acknowledgement of proficiency of our students which would provide context for the effectiveness of our teaching staff.

Another public comment was made in regard to declining enrollment encouraging the District to collect data on the trend to better understand the reason why students and families are choosing other institutions over GLHS.

Stanley questioned whether BHPS students who unenrolled are evaluated to obtain some data regarding departures from our school system.  Feltre responded saying that it is something that can be done.

On the Addendum to the agenda was the resignation of STEAM Director, Kelly Curtiss which the Board voted to approve, 5-2.

Under policy, Joly questioned revised language which could be interpreted to mean that the Board has responsibility for ensuring the proper implementation of curriculum which she felt was a broad overreach of the duties of BOE members.  She stated that direct instruction and implementation is the responsibility of Administration and staff, not the BOE.
